9.4 Problems Accessing the Management Interface
Table 158 Troubleshooting Chart
Symptom Action
Cannot access the on-
board configuration
program through a serial
port connection
• Be sure the terminal emulator program is set to VT100
compatible, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, and the baud rate
set to any of the following (9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, 115200
bps).
• Check that the null-modem serial cable conforms to the pin-out
connections provided in section 2.2.4 on page 9.
Forgot or lost the
password
• Reinstall the ECN330-switch defaults. Make a direct
connection to the ECN330’s console port and power cycle the
ECN330. Immediately after powering on, press <Ctrl+u> and
type the password mercury to access the system file menu.
Select <D> to delete all user-defined configuration files. Press
<Q> to boot the ECN330-switch.
Cannot connect using
Telnet, web browser, or
SNMP software
• Be sure the ECN330 is powered up.
• Check network cabling between the management station and
the ECN330.
• Check that there is a valid network connection to the ECN330
and that the port being using has not been disabled.
• Be sure the VLAN interface through which the management
station is connected is configured with a valid IP address,
subnet mask and default gateway.
• Be sure the management station has an IP address in the
same subnet as the ECN330-switch’s IP interface to which it is
connected.
• If trying to connect to the ECN330-switch through the IP
address for a tagged VLAN group, the management station,
and the ports connecting intermediate switches in the network,
must be configured with the appropriate tag.
• If a connection using Telnet fails, the maximum number of
concurrent Telnet/SSH sessions permitted may have been
exceeded. Try connecting again at a later time.
