6A-48 ENGINE REPAIR
CAMSHAFT FRONT OIL-SEAL SUBSTITUTION
Removal
1) Remove timing belt (see 6A-28) and plungers cover (see
6A-49 VALVES PLAY).
NOTE:
Before untensioning the timing belt, loose screws (1)
of camshaft driving gear (2).
2) Take away screws (1) and remove driving gear (2).
Installation
1) Clean surface of coupling between the oil-seal and the cover.
2) Place new oil-seal (4), with its guide, on cover (3); fit it
using tool (A) ref. 790968 and hand gripping tool (B) ref.
790969.
3) Lubricate extreme end (6) of camshaft and apply on cover
contacting surface (3) a coat of recommended sealant ref.
790962.
4) Install cover -oil-seal assembly (3) on cylinder head; fix
screws (5) to the specified tightening torque and withdraw
oil-seal guiding wedge.
Tightening torque for screws on cover oil-seal
assembly:
0,75 Kg-m (7,5 Nm)
5) Continue installation reversing removal procedures; apply
specified tightening torque to screws of camshaft driving gear
and those indicated in the complementary tasks.
Tightening torque screws of camshaft driving gear:
2,5 Kg-m (25 Nm)
NOTE:
Tightening torque of screws fixing driving gear and
camshaft, can be applied after installing the timing
belt.

3) Remove nuts (5) and withdraw cover covering oil-seal (3).
4) Remove oil-seal (4).
5) Clean leftover residues of sealant stuck to surface of coupling
between the cover covering oil-seal and the seating surface
of cylinder head.
