ENGINE FUEL AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM 6C-7
FUEL SYSTEM
CLEANING TIPS AND CAUTIONS DURING REPAIR
CAUTION:
The entry of foreign bodies, dust particles, dirt, water, etc. in the fuel system produces irreparable damage
to the fuel injection equipment. To avoid this, suitably cover the open conducts during removal.
Cleaning and warnings before repairing
Before carrying out any intervention on the fuel system, respect the following to the letter:
• Place the vehicle in a suitable workplace, far from heat or flames.
• Make sure there is enough fuel to carry out the desured operation.
• Disconnect the battery before beginning the cleaning, disconnections or repair.
• Have appropriate receptacles to hold the fuel when the disconnections are carried out.
• For the cleaning, use fresh recommended products, clean brushes in perfect condition and compressed air.
• Clean and brush all the tools and workbench which will be used with the appropriate disolvent and blow dry with
compressed air.
• Brush all the parts to be dismantled with the recommended cleaning product, as well as their surroundings and blow
dry with compressed air. Make sure there are no brush hairs or dirt left.
• Clean your hands before and during the intervention.
• If protective gloves are to be worn, these must be made of latex.
Cleaning and warnings during repair
• When a circuit is opened, plug the open conducts correctly.
• Any fuel circuit element that is removed must be stored in an hermetic plastic bag, after having been plugged.
• Once a circuit is open, brushes, cleaning products, compressed air or traditional cloths MUST NOT be used. These
products can introduce impurities into the system.
• In the case of replacement of one element for a new one, remove the latter from its wrapping just before assembly.
• Once the injectors have been removed and protected, plug their housings in the cylinder head.
• The dismantled parts must be cleaned in a suitable recipient using the recommended cleaning fluid and rinsed in
fresh trial fluid for injection equipment.
Cautions for the injection equipment cleaning
• Make sure there are enough plugs to protect the injection equipment galleries and outlets. The plugs must be new.
• Make sure there are plenty of plastic bags with hermetic seals for the storing of the dismantled components of the
feed circuit.
• Make sure there are suitable cleaning brushes which do not shed hairs or fluff. Traditional paper cloths MUST NOT be
used.
• Make sure there is the appropriate cleaning fluid and the trial fluid for injection equipment.
