Hydraulic Accumulator (Rail)
Generalities
The hydraulic accumulator is fitted in the cylinder head beside
the electro-injectors.
With its volume of approximately 29 cm
3
it smoothes out the
fuel pressure oscillations due to:
- the working of the high pressure pump
- the opening of the electro-injectors
The flow limiters (2) are fitted to the top part of the hydraulic
accumulator (1).
The fuel pressure sensor (4), the pressure limiters valve (6) and
the excess fuel multiple connector (85-way) are fitted to the
lower part.
On-vehicle service
For removal, installation or replacement (see 6A-36).
NOTE:
• The flow limiter (2) and the pressure limiter valve
(6) can stand 5 fittings after which it is necessary to replace
them. Before fitting, lubricate the nuts with a film of oil
and fit new joints, including the pressure sensor (4).

Flow limiter
Generalities
The flow limiters guarantee the engine working engine protecting
it from the risk of the engine catching fire in the event of fuel
loss: internal (electro-injector spray blocked open), external (pipe
and high pressure pipes to the electro-injectors outlets weak or
damaged).
In normal working conditions, the piston (7) is kept in open
position thanks to the spring (8) pressure and the pressure which
the fuel exerts on the exterior piston (7) surface due to the
difference in section between its internal and external surface.
In the event of an accentuated loss of pressure at the outlet of a
limiter, the entry pressure becomes superior to the resistance
of the spring (8) and displaces the piston (7) obstructing the fuel
outlet (U).
