STEERING GEAR BOX AND LINKAGE 3B-13
HYDRAULIC PRESSURE INSPECTION
1) Clean carefully the pipe connections to the pump and
disconnect the oil outlet hose (pressurized oil hose).
2) Connect the manometer valve set and hoses as shown,
between pump outlet and inlet to power steering gear box.
3) Fill the hydraulic oil circuit and purge air (see 3B-12).
4) With engine atidling speed, turn fully leftwards and
rightwards the steering wheel, to allow quickly for
hydraulic oil from the tank reaching a temperature of
around 50 - 60 °C.
Back pressure check
5) With the wheels straightened (steering at the middle of its
course), let the engine to idle speed and check that the
hydraulic pressure corresponds to the specified one.
Back pressure: < than 10 Kg /cm
2
6) If higher than the indicated value, check for possible
blockages in the control valve or in pipes.
Relief pressure check
(Checking at pump)
7) Increase engine speed till about 1500 rpm.
8) Close slowly the manometer valve while reading with it the
pressure increase.
9) Note the maximum pressure value reading, which must be
in accordance with the value indicated below.
Maximum Pressure : 60 ÷ 80 Kg/cm

CAUTION:
Be sure of not having manometer valve closed more
than 10 seconds
