ANTICORROSION TREATMENT
Steel sheets have been previously treated for corrosion. To get a
higher resistance to corrosion inside and/or outside these are
galvanized both sides.
Because of greater protection against corrosion some
procedures are applied such as those described below:
1) Steel sheets have an electro cathodic priming to provide
greater resistance to corrosion.
2) A wax layer resistant to corrosion is applied to the internal
doors and the main lateral frames, where there is a tendency
to accumulate dampness.
3) A vinyl coating is applied in the lower part of the body and
inside of the wheel box.
4) A sealer is applied in the border of the door, connection of
plates in the engine compartment, and similar places, t o
avoid water entrance producing corrosion.
When steel plates are replaced, or when a repair is done after a
collision, if part of the repair is not treated, will be unprotected
against corrosion and getting damaged. Hence, it is essential
to do such protection when repairing the corresponding surfaces.
All the metal sheets are covered with metal conditioner and pri-
mer when they come out from the factory. When repairs are
done or pieces are replaced all the naked metal surfaces must
be cleaned and covered with rust proof primer. Do this work
before applying the sealer and the anticorrosion was coating.
Sealants are applied to specific unions of a vehicle during
manufacturing. The sealant blocks dust entrance in the vehicle
and acts as an anticorrosion barrier. Sealant is applied to the
door, the border of the bonnet and between panellings. If any
damages are repaired proper correction and fitting must be done.
Seal again the connection joints at a new replaced sheet and
the door border part or replaced bonnet.
Use quality sealants to seal the earflap unions, overlaying unions
and weldings. The sealant should be flexible and take on the
paint after putting it on the repaired areas.
To seal open unions, use an impermeable material. Select
sealant appropriate to such repair. Read the instruction given by
the manufacturer before using the sealant.
At times repair must be painted, in these cases follow the nor-
mal painting and finishing procedures.
