METALLIC SPARE PIECES FINISHING
Metallic spare pieces (or ensembles) are covered with
electrodeposited primer. To get good paint adhesion, the following
procedure is recommended).
1) Use wax or solvent degreaser to clean the piece.
2) Use damp or dry sandpaper (n° 400) to polish slightly the
sheet. Do not polish strongly to avoid scratches.
3) If the priming coating applied in the factory has been remove
exposing the metal, apply a metal conditioner for protection.
Read the manufacturer advices about how to use the metal
conditioner.
4) Apply the primer on dry surfaces before starting polishing
with sandpaper. Drying time is specified in the primer con-
tainer.
5) Use damp or dry sandpaper (n° 400) to polish gently the
sheet.
6) Wash again this part.
7) Apply adequate colour paint on top.
8) Paints require different drying methods. Follow manufacturer
instructions indicated in the paint container.
9) When applying lacquer (fast drying paint layer), dry the
painted surface and polish with a polishing compound.
If melamine or acrylic is being used, no latter polishing after
drying is required.
10) If a lacquer coating is used, do no apply was on the covered
surface till full complete drying (about two months).
Before replacing pieces or external ensembles, check the paint
on all the covered surfaces or hidden interiors. If rust has set in
do as follows:
1) Use an adequate metal brush, blocker or antirust liquid to
eliminate corrosion. Follow the instruction given specially
for each of these materials.
2) If necessary, wash with detergent, rinse and dry.
3) Before assembling the body external pieces, apply an
anticorrosion compound in all the body external cleaned
surfaces. Anticorrosion compound must be applied too in
the internal surfaces of the body external sheets to be
assembled.
