6C-10 ENGINE FUEL AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM
FUEL TANK

CAUTION:
• Disconnect the battery before carrying out any inter-
vention on fuel tank.
• Place the vehicle in a ventilated work place, away
from heat or flames
• Before carrying out any intervention on fuel system,
remember «CLEANING TIPS AND CAUTIONS DURING
REPAIR» (see 6C-7).
Fuel tank removal and installation
Removal
1) Prepare a recipient to receive the fuel remaining in the tank
and pipes.
2) Disconnect filter tank hose (2).
3) Disconnect breather hose (3).
4) Disconnect fuel outlet hose (5) and guel return hose (6).
5) Coupler (7) from level gauge (8)
6) Prepare a device to support the tank (1) from the outside,
remove the six screws (4) and remove the tank.
Installation
1) If the tank is to be replaced, pour the fuel into a suitable
recipient and transfer the complements to the new tank.
NOTE:
• If the removed hoses show any signs of deformity or
decay, replace them.
• If the tank is to be re-used, pour the fuel into a suitable
recipient and check for any dirtiness. If there is any,
thoroughly clean the tank.
2) Fit the fuel tank in reverse order to the dismantling, tighten
the hose clamps firmly and tighten the fuel tank setscrews
to the specified torque..
Fuel tank frame setscrews torque:
4 ÷ 6 Kg-m (40 ÷ 60 Nm)
3) Fill with enough fuel to start the engine, drain the circuit
(see 6C-8), start the engine and make sure there is no fuel
leakage.
