3B-14 STEERING GEAR BOX AND LINKAGE
10) If the measured value is not within the specified range proceed
as follows:
• If pressure is higher than 80 Kg/cm
2
it could be due to a
fault in the relief valve. Substitute pump.
• If pressure is lower than 60 Kg/cm
2
it could be due to
pump failure or to relief valve spring. Substitute pump.
(Checking in the power steering gear box)
NOTE:
If checks to determine the worthiness of the hydraulic
pump have been successful, check worthiness of the
power steering gear box as explained below.
11) Open completely the manometer valve and increase the
engine speed till about 1500 rpm.
12) Turn fully the steering wheel leftwards and rightwards. The
maximum pressure should be the stated value.
Maximum pressure: 60 ÷ 80 Kg/cm
2
13) If the reading is lower, probably there is a failure in the
mechanism of the power steering gear box. Substitute box.
CAUTION:
Do not keep the steering wheel turned at the
maximum position for more than 10 seconds.
