13.5.3 Detector signal subtraction
When high sensitivity analysis or high temperature programmed analysis is performed, sta-
tionary liquid vapor released from the column enters into the detector, causing baseline drift
or increasing noises. When this occurs, set up dual analytical flow lines with an injection
port, column, and detector of the same type. One flow line is used as a reference and the
other flow line receives the sample injection. Acquiring signals from each detector at the
same time and calculating the difference between them provides stable baselines.
