Slot Covers
Slot covers are an integral part of the FSP 3000 C system safety design and perform the
following functions:
l Prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the shelf
l Prevent dust and debris from entering the shelf which could cause product damage
l Ensure continued EMC and safety compliance
l Direct the flow of cooling air through the shelf
Slot covers are passive devices and are not monitored by the management system. The
EMC contact strips avoid unintended propagation of electromagnetic energy towards the
external environment that might disrupt other equipment.
To prevent overheating and module failure, the SH12 and SH4R must
never be operated with open or empty slots. Each unoccupied shelf
slot must have the appropriate slot cover in order to maintain proper
cooling for all other modules and prevent potential system damage.
