SH12 Shelf
Cooling and Airflow
The following figure provides visual details about the SH12 cooling and airflow.
Figure 2: Airflow through the SH12
At the bottom of the shelf, the PSMs are cooled by internal fans with airflow from front to
rear. The shelf contains front and rear air opening for the PSMs. The air filter for the PSMs
is mounted in the lower front cover.
This airflow direction allows another shelf to be mounted directly above or below without
needing an air gap between the shelves.
EQUIPMENT DAMAGE MAY RESULT IF:
The shelves are operated with open or empty slots. If a slot is left
open for a long period of time, the fan modules compensate by
increasing the fan speed. If this doesn't adequately cool the modules,
temperature alarms are raised on the modules that are affected. If the
temperature goes above what a module can tolerate, it shuts down.
In an ambient temperature less than 40°C (10F), modules must be
replaced within one minute of failure.
