Mounting the SH4R Shelf to a Rack
Mounting the SH4R Shelf to a Rack
LIFTINGHAZARD CAUTION
ADVA Optical Networking recommends having two people hold the shelf
in place while a third person secures it to the rack. When carrying and
mounting the SH4R,use the handles present on the mounting brackets.
This procedure assumes that:
l The mounting brackets have been attached to the shelf;
l A cover extension is installed (if applicable); and
l The grounding cable has been installed to the shelf.
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESD jack.
2. On the rack mounting rails, locate and mark the mounting holes where the bottom of
the SH4R shelf will be once it is installed.
3. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 4 M6x20screws to attach the left guide rail to the
rack.
4. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 4 M6x20screws to attach the right guide rail to the
rack.
5. If you are using a 23-inch rack:
a. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 4 M3x6screws to attach the left guide rail bracket
to the left guide rail.
b. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 4 M3x6screws to attach the right guide rail
bracket to the right guide rail.
6. On the rack mounting rails, locate and mark the mounting holes where you will mount
the shelf.
7. Install four cage nuts in the corresponding holes on both sides of the rack.
8. If there is a terminal connector used for the ground point preinstalled in your rack,
skip this step and proceed to the next step. Otherwise, locate and clip the cage nut to
the right mounting rail on the back side of the rack for the grounding cable to be
attached.
9. Mount the shelf to the rack:
a. With a person on each side, lift the shelf to the bay and position it in the rack so
that the bracket holes on each side are aligned with the rack mounting holes or
the cage nuts.
b. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 2 M6x20screws to attach the left mounting
bracket to the rack.
c. Use a Pozidriv screwdriver and 2 M6x20screws to attach the right mounting
bracket to the rack. The SH4R should rest on top of the guide rails.
