Local Building and National Electrical Codes Warning
Equipment Handling
l Module and components that are sensitive to static electricity should be handled only
in an EPA.
l When handling any component (shelf, module, or pluggable transceiver or connecting
cables, verify that the equipment end of your ESD strap is attached to an ESD jack on
the shelf.
l Keep the FSP 3000 C component in its ESD protective bag until you are ready to
unpack, inspect, and install it.
l Always remove the shelf and its modules from their ESD protective packaging at a
static-safe work area only. At a minimum, a static-safe work area must consist of a
static-dissipative mat on a stable surface, a wrist strap for each person, and a
common grounding facility for both (e.g. earth bonding points).
l When inspecting, removing, or installing a component, always place it component-side
up on a dissipative surface or a static-dissipative mat. If you are returning a
component, place it in an ESD protective bag before packing it.
l Before connecting any interface cables, ground yourself to dissipate any static charge.
l Avoid contact between an FSP 3000 C component and your clothing. The wrist strap
protects components from ESD voltages on the body only; ESD voltages on clothing
can still cause damage.
l Limit your movement. Movement can cause static electricity to build up around you.
l Do not stack shelves or modules on top of each other.
l If you plan to return an FSP 3000 C component, immediately place it in a static-
shielding bag to avoid ESDdamage.
l Do not move ESD sensitive parts out of the EPA unless they are properly packaged in
ESD Static Shielding Bags or approved ESD containers.
l Seal ESD Static Shielding bags properly before they are moved out of the EPA.
