Laser Safety Requirements
To achieve a laser safety in the limits of Laser Class 1M product with Hazard Level 1M:
l The maximum output power of traffic modules is defined and guaranteed.
l The minimum insertion loss of multiplexer filters is defined and guaranteed.
l Optical amplifier modules, such as EDFAs or Raman amplifiers, ensure Laser Class
1M at their output ports.
l Laser and LED Safety Guidelines and Warnings
l Class 1M Laser Product Warning
l Traffic Module Considerations

Class 1M Laser Safety Limits
The total combined power is limited to a value of 136 mW, or +21.34 dBm for
wavelengths > 1400 nm such as WDM signals from the ITU-T standard. This implies that
no “open fiber connection on the FSP 3000 C platform shall be capable of transmitting
more optical power than the 1M hazard level for a longer time than specified in the
standards. Any internal fiber connection that is not open and accessible by the user can
exceed this level.
