Handling Equipment Precautions and Guidelines
Handling Pluggable Transceivers
When handling a transceiver, observe the following guidelines:
l Handle all pluggable transceivers as electrostatic sensitive devices.
l Do not remove a pluggable transceiver from its static-protective package until you are
ready to install it.
l Transport and store a pluggable transceiver (even temporarily) in its original static-
protective package and shipping box.
l Do not touch any of the pins, host connector, or components of a pluggable
transceiver.
l The optical ports of a pluggable transceiver are equipped with a dust plug on delivery to
prevent impurities. Always keep the dust plug in the receptacles as long as the
pluggable transceiver is stored or fiber-optic cables are not plugged in.
l When you remove the dust plug to connect a fiber cable, keep it for future use in a
separate resealable container.
l Do not remove and insert a pluggable transceiver module more often than is
necessary. Repeated removals and insertions of a pluggable transceiver module can
shorten its useful life.
l Do not dispose of a waste pluggable transceiver with the normal trash because of it is
an electronic product.
Do not disassemble or repair pluggable transceivers under any
circumstances. Repair and all adjustments should be made by the
manufacturer only.
Do not store pluggable transceivers in an area where:
l The temperature exceeds the maximum rating;
l There is too much moisture or dampness;
l There is exposure to acidic or corrosive gases; or
l Other extreme conditions exist.
Failure, overheating, or fire may occur.
