Equipment Disposal and Recycling Information

Businesses users of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) in the EU must ensure
that all separately collected WEEE is treated and recycled.
ADVA Optical Networking provides a collection and take-back system for its business-
to-business (B2B) products that are introduced in the EU member states since August
13, 2005. Regardless of whether the product contains hazardous substances, the end
user is legally obliged to deliver this product or its electrical and electronic components at
life cycle end to an authorized collection site for B2B WEEE. Details are defined by the
national law of your respective country.
CAUTION
Separate this product or its electrical and electronic components from
other waste and scrap and use ADVA Optical Networking's collection
and take-back system to dispose your WEEE of in an environmentally
safe manner. Comply with the applicable law and WEEE regulations of
your country.
For details on how to dispose of this product in your country, please
check the contractual arrangements with the importer or supplier of the
product and contact the Key Account Management at ADVA Optical
Networking directly.
Pluggable Transceivers
For proper recycling, return end-of-life pluggable transceivers to your local supplier upon
the purchase of equivalent new equipment, or dispose of it at designated collection points
for B2B WEEE.
Batteries
System and traffic modules with encryption functionality contain different types of lithium
batteries. Lithium is considered to be dangerous to the environment. Therefore, care
should be taken when disposing of the module and its battery to prevent accidents and
environmental damage. Laws and regulations governing battery disposal differ from
country to country.
CAUTION
Dispose of lithium batteries properly in accordance with the
manufacturer's instructions and applicable national or local regulations on
battery disposal.
Do not throw used batteries in ordinary garbage containers.
Do not dispose of batteries in fire or water. The battery could explode.
As electric capacity is left in a discarded battery, make sure to cover the
(+) and (-) terminals with friction tape or some other insulator before
disposal.
