FTM-2
increase their rotational speed to maximum in order to compensate for the loss of cooling
due to the failed FTM-2.
The failure of a single fan does not endanger the cooling of the
modules in the shelf up to 104°F(40°C) ambient temperature.
However, the failed FTM-2 must be replaced within one minute of
failure.
If two FTM-2s fail, the airflow inside the shelf may be insufficient to
keep the modules cool. The shelf may overheat and shut down of
individual modules may occur.
The air filter pads must be used at all times to prevent dust and debris from entering the
shelf. The pad is included with the air filter unit. The replaceable air filter is accessible at
the bottom of the shelf.
A dirty air filter pad negatively influences cooling efficiency. Replace
dirty air filter pads at least once a year. ADVA Optical Networking
recommends replacing the air filter pad every 90 days. A software
timer is provided reminding filter pad replacement.
When an FTM-2 needs to be taken out and/or replaced, it is important that this is done as
quickly as possible (<1 min) not to affect the thermal capability.
