6A-50 ENGINE REPAIR
Adjustment of valves play
CAUTION:
The adjustment of valves must be carried out very
carefully in order to keep the timing diagram as
prescribed;otherwise valves play will be different than
specified.
In actual fact, excessive play causes noises, retarding
the opening and anticipating the closure of valves.
Insufficient play produces the opposite effects
If play is zero, valves are always slightly open leading
to valves and seats damage.
TIMING DIAGRAM
NOTE:
• To carry out adjustment, valves must be closed as
explained in task 2
nd
of the "Check".
• With cylinder head assembled, the nose of cylinder
admission connecting rod being adjusted must stay,
approximately, upwards. Under these conditions the
piston is about 10 ÷ 13 mm of the T.D.C., avoiding
thus valves hitting the piston in the tasks heredown
described.
