6A-68 ENGINE REPAIR
DISMANTLING, ASSEMBLY OR REPLACEMENT
OF THE HEAT EXCHANGER
Dismantling
1) Disconnect battery.
2) Remove refrigerant from the engine (see OB-8).
3) Disconnect water outlet (1) and intlet (2) tubes to heat
exchanger (3).
4) Dismantle screw (4) and withdraw heat exchanger (3) with
its thermal gaskets.
Inspection
1) Introduce air at a pressure of 1 bar through one of the water
intake tubes (7), block another (8) and check there are no
leaks through the oil conduct (9).
Conditions of the essay:
Oil type --------------------------------------------- SAE 30
Oil inlet temperature --------------------------- 115 °C
Oil flow --------------------------------------------- 30 l/min
Water inlet temperature ---------------------- 85 °C
Water flow ----------------------------------------- 20 l/min
Deliveries:
Heat quantity exchanged --------------------- 4,5 Kw
Oil pressure depression ----------------------- 0,85 bar
Opening pressure safety valve ----------------- 0,82 ÷ 1,03 bar
Assembly
1) Clean carefully coupling contact areas of the heat exchanger
in support (5) and oil tubings.
2) Fit the new thermal gaskets (6) on heat exchanger (3) .
Then, fix heat exchanger to support (5) using screw (4)
tightening it to the specified tightening torque.
Tightening torque for screw (4) fixing heat exchanger:
8 Kg-m (80 Nm)
3) Continue assembly in reversing order to dismantling.
Tightening torque for fixing water conduction metallic
tubes:
4 Kg-m (40 Nm)
