12 Safety Functions
12.1 Overview
This chapter provides detailed information on the safety functions of the SERVOPACK.
12.2 Introduction to the Safety Functions
12.2.1 Safety Functions
Safety functions are built into the SERVOPACK to reduce the risks associated with using
the machine by protecting workers from the hazards of moving machine parts and other-
wise increasing the safety of machine operation.
Especially when working in hazardous areas inside guards, such as for machine mainte-
nance, the safety function can be used to avoid hazardous moving machine parts.
The SERVOPACK provides the following four safety functions for functional safety stand-
ards.

*1. The Active Mode Function stops the motor according to the speed reference that is
preset in a parameter in the SERVOPACK when the safety request input signal turns OFF
during SBB-D or SPM-D. The Active Mode Function is not a safety function in the appli-
cable standards. Keep this in mind when you design the system.
Refer to the following section for details.

*2. A Safety Module (optional) must be connected to use this function. Refer to the fol-
lowing manual for application procedures.
