Remove/Replace the Blower Belt
Introduction A correctly installed blower belt has an average belt life of 5000 hours and no
routine wear or rubbing is apparent on pulleys or other components. Failure rate
of all blowers with automatic tensioners is 0.25%. Ensure the blower belt is
installed correctly.
Incorrect blower belt installation can produce any of the following results:
• Zero force spring tension from the idler arm to the belt
• Belt stress, low belt tension, and high vibration from tight side installation
• Excessive idler arm casting wear
• Vibration and casting wear allow motor pulley to come in contact with the
casting
• Extreme belt fatigue creating less than 1000 hour belt life expectancy
• Idler pulley rubbing from vibration, low tension, and aluminum debris cause
the hard anodized coating to wear away.
Safety To ensure personal safety and avoid equipment damage, observe the following:
CAUTION
Ensure blower motor belt is installed correctly. Correcting belt installation after
wrong belt installation does not guarantee the idler bearing will not be harmed. If
an idler bearing has been running backward for any length of time, a sudden
reversal of belt direction can cause idler bearing failure due to wrong grease
channeling or new ball tracking. Also the idler bearing will already be damaged if
there is any wear to the surface of the idler pulley.
