Scanning
The DS9908 has a built-in, light-weight stand to easily accommodate both
hands-free (presentation)
and hand-held
scanning.
Scanning features include hand-held touch zones which are touch sensitive areas that switch the scanner between
hand-held and hands-free modes (see Parts of the Scanner on page 30). To enable the touch zones, fingers must
be placed in the zone above the finger ridges on both sides of the scanner. See Figure 11 on page 43 for proper
finger placement.
Hands-free Scanning
The scanner is in
hands-free (presentation) mode
when it sits on a counter top, or when it is mounted on a wall
using the multi-mount bracket. In this mode, the scanner operates in continuous (constant-on) mode, where it
automatically decodes a barcode presented in its field of view.
In hands-free mode the LED indicator turns solid green. An aiming dot may appear.

Hand-held Scanning
When lifted off the counter or removed from the multi-mount bracket, the scanner operates in standard trigger
mode. Aim the scanner at a barcode and pull the trigger to decode.
In hand-held mode the LED indicator turns off. An aiming dot may appear.
NOTE: SR and DL models emit red illumination and a red aiming dot.
HD and HL models emit white illumination and green aiming dot.
