25.4 MVR Overview
Multicast VLAN Registration (MVR) is designed for applications (such as Media-on-Demand (MoD)) that
use multicast traffic across an Ethernet ring-based service provider network.
MVR allows one single multicast VLAN to be shared among different subscriber VLANs on the network.
While isolated in different subscriber VLANs, connected devices can subscribe to and unsubscribe from
the multicast stream in the multicast VLAN. This improves bandwidth utilization with reduced multicast
traffic in the subscriber VLANs and simplifies multicast group management.
MVR only responds to IGMP join and leave control messages from multicast groups that are configured
under MVR. Join and leave reports from other multicast groups are managed by IGMP snooping.
The following figure shows a network example. The subscriber VLAN (1, 2 and 3) information is hidden
from the streaming media server, S. In addition, the multicast VLAN information is only visible to the OLT
and S.
src-ip Specify the source IP of the IGMP server supplying this range of groups.
package-member Assigns an ID number to this multicast channel. The valid range is between 1 and 32.
Subscribers will be able to order package members according to this identifier.
Cac Profile Select a QoS CAC profile. If you haven’t created one, click Cac Profile Setting to do so.
preview-duration Specify the duration in seconds (1-6000) that a subscriber can join to a group. This field is
meaningful only when this multicast channel is ordered by subscribers with preview privilege.
preview-count Specify the maximum number of times (1-100) a subscriber can preview this multicast
channel’s content. This field is meaningful only when this multicast channel is ordered by
subscribers with preview privilege.
preview-blackout Specify the duration in seconds (0-7200) that a subscriber has to wait between 2 times of
previewing a group. This field is meaningful only when this multicast channel is ordered by
subscribers with preview privilege.
Add Click this to create a new entry or to update an existing one.
This saves your changes to the OLT’s run-time memory. The OLT loses these changes if it is
turned off or loses power, so use the Save link on the top navigation panel to save your
changes to the non-volatile memory when you are done configuring.
Cancel Click Cancel to reset the fields to your previous configuration.
Clear Click Clear to reset the fields to the factory defaults.
Index This is the index number of the entry.
* Use this row to select all of the profiles for deletion.
Name This displays the name of the entry.
Rule This displays the multicast channel settings of this entry.
Delete Select this for one or more profiles and click Delete to remove them.
Delete Click Delete to remove the profiles with the Delete option selected.
Cancel Click Cancel to begin configuring the screen again.
