CHAPTER 89
MAC Forced Forwarding
89.1 Overview
This chapter lists the commands for activating/deactivating MAC Forced Forwarding and for setting it
up in a VLAN interface.
89.2 MAC Forced Forwarding Commands
Use MACFF (MAC Forced Forwarding) to hide internal server information from hosts in the same subnet.
The OLT intercepts a host’s ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) requests and forwards them to a pre-
defined gateway. The gateway routes or forwards traffic so hosts in the same subnet won’t know the
internal server’s MAC addresses.
Here is an example showing packets forwarding from Host 1 (192.168.1.11) to Host 2 (192.168.1.12). In
normal switch function, these two hosts can communication with each other directly, because they are
in the same subnet. If MACFF is enabled, Host 1 (192.168.1.11) will forward packets to Gateway, and
Gateway forwards the packets to Host 2 (192.168.1.12).
