CHAPTER 2
Hardware Installation
2.1 Overview
This chapter describes how to install and connect the OLT and line cards. It also includes installation
instructions and descriptions of the OLT chassis and line card components, such as transceivers and
power modules.
2.2 General Installation Instructions
Perform the installation as follows:
• Make sure the OLT’s power switches are in the OFF position.
• Install the chassis as detailed in Section 2.3 on page 43, making sure you connect the frame grounds
before you make any other connections.
• Have qualified service personnel install the OLT in a restricted access area, such as a street cabinet or
data center.
•See Section 2.4 on page 45 to install management and line cards.
• Leave the slot covers on unused slots.
•See Section 2.7 on page 51 to make power connections and turn on the OLT.
2.3 Chassis Installation
This section explains how to install the chassis on a rack.
2.3.1 Rack-mounted Installation Requirements
Make sure the rack will safely support the combined weight of all the equipment it contains.
• Use a #2 Phillips screwdriver to install the screws.
•Refer to Section 110.2 on page 742 for the gauge of wire to use for the frame ground connections.
•Refer to Section 110.1 on page 741 for the OLT’s dimensions, weight and power consumption.
Failure to use the proper screws may damage the unit.
