51.8 Dual Configuration Files
The management switching card has a start-up configuration file and a passive configuration file. The
running configuration is based on the start-up configuration file. These two configuration files are
different from the “default” configuration (the system’s built-in configuration included with the
firmware). The management switching card starts with the default configuration and customizes it with
the start-up configuration file’s settings to build the running configuration.
The OLT synchronizes the running configuration on the standby management switching card with the
running configuration on the active management switching card at start up and when you use the
write memory command.
Use reload config <1|2> to load configuration file 1 or configuration file 2 into running configuration,
and the OLT will restart automatically without turning the power off.
Use boot config [1|2] to restart the OLT (cold reboot) with the specified configuration file.
See Chapter 84 on page 607 and Chapter 92 on page 643 for more on managing the running
configuration file.
51.8.1 Saving Your Configuration
When you run commands, the OLT saves changes to its run-time memory. The OLT loses these changes if
it is turned off or loses power. Use the
write memory command in the enable mode to save the
current configuration permanently to non-volatile memory. You can also use the write memory
<index> command to save the current configuration in non-volatile memory to the specified
configuration file.
Note: Save changes after each CLI session. The OLT loses all unsaved configuration changes
once it restarts.
The default configuration depends on the current running firmware. Changing the firmware can also
change the configuration file. Therefore, if a parameter is not presented in the saved start-up
configuration file and the new firmware changed the parameter’s default value, then the running
configuration will follow the new settings. This can generate a different behavior than when running with
the previous firmware.
51.9 Logging Out
In the enable mode, use the exit command to log out of the CLI. Use logout anywhere in the
command interface to exit from local or remote management.
