Radiofrequencyinterference
Allcablesthataretobepermanentlyinstalledwithin9m(30ft)ofanysourceofRadio
Frequency(RF)interferencesuchasatransmitteraerialsystemorradiotransmitters,
must,unlessshieldedbyametaldeckorbulkhead,beadequatelyscreened
Suitablescreeningcanbeestablishedusingsheathing,braidingorothersuitablematerial.
Insuchasituationexiblecablesshouldbescreenedwhereverpossible.
Itisimportantthatcables,otherthanthosesupplyingservicestotheequipmentinstalled

potentialsourcesofinterference.Cableswhichmustpassthrougharadioroommustbe
screenedbyacontinuousmetalconduitwhichmustbebondedtothescreeningofthe
radioroomatitspointsofentryandexit.
Physicalprotectionofcables
Cablesexposedtotheriskofphysicaldamagemustbeenclosedinasteelconduitor
protectedbyametalcasingunlessthecable'scovering(forexamplearmourorsheath)is
sufcienttoprotectitfromthedamagerisk.
Cablesexposedtoanexceptionalriskofmechanicaldamage(forexampleinholds,
storage-spacesandcargo-spaces)mustbeprotectedbyasuitablecasingorconduit,
evenwhenarmoured,ifthecablecoveringdoesnotguaranteesufcientprotection
forthecables.
Metallicmaterialsusedforthephysicalprotectionofcablesmustbesuitablyprotected
againstcorrosion.
