Unpackingstandardpartsandunits
Priortoinstallationoruse,partsandunitsmustbeinspected,andthenunpackedfrom
theirtransportboxes.Itisimportantthatthisunpackingisdonewithoutinicting
damagetotheequipment.
Context
Thisprocedureprovidesthebasictasksofunpackingunits(mainunit,sparepartsetc)
fromboxesshippedfromKongsbergMaritime.
Note
Iftheunitinquestionisnotunpackedforimmediateuse,youmayconsiderstoringit
unopenedinitsoriginalbox.However,itmaybeusefultoopentheboxtocheckits
contentsfordamageandretrieveanyaccompanyingdocumentation.
Donotuseaknifetoopencardboardboxes-thecontentsmaybelocatedclosetothe
surface,andcanthenbedamagedbytheblade.
Procedure
1Checkthecartonbeforeopeningittoensureitshowsnosignsofdropping,
immersioninwaterorothermishandling.
1Ifexternaldamageisdetected,opentheboxtocheckitscontents.
2Requestthatarepresentativeofthecarriertobepresentwhiletheboxis
opened,soanytransportationdamagecanbeidentiedanddocumented.
3Ifaunithasbeendamaged,prepareaninspectionreportstatingthecondition
oftheunitandactionstaken.
Describethedamage,andcollectphotographicevidenceifpossible.Return
theinspectionreporttoKongsbergMaritimeassoonaspossible.
2Placetheboxonastableworkbenchorontheoorwiththetopoftheboxfacing
upwards.
3Intheabsenceofotherinstructions,alwaysopenthetopofthecartonrst.
Thecontentsoftheboxwillnormallyhavebeenloweredintothecartonfrom
above,sothiswillusuallybetheeasiestroutetofollow.Becarefulwhenyouopen
thebox,andmakesurethatthecontentsarenotdamaged.Donot
useaknifeto
opencardboardboxes.
4Iftheboxhasbeenclosedusingstaples,removethestaplesfromthecartonas
youopenit.
Thiswillreducethepossibilitiesofscratchinjurytoyourselfanddamagetothe
contents.
5Ifawoodenboxhasbeenclosedusingscrews,alwaysremovethemusinga
screwdriver.
Donot
attempttoforcethelidopenwithacrowbarorsimilartool.
