Settinguptheinterfaceforcoursegyroinput
Inordertooperatecorrectly,theST90requiresinputfromacoursegyro.Inmostcases
asuitablecoursegyroisalreadyinstalledonthevessel.Aglobalpositioningsystem
(GPS)withacompatibleoutputformatcanalsobeused.Toselectwhichsensorsto
install,usetheSensorInstallationpage.Thecurrentheadingisshownonthetopbarif
youhaveenabledthisintheDisplayOptionsdialogbox.
Prerequisites
Thisprocedureassumesthat:
•YouhaveavacantinterfaceportonyourProcessorUnit.
•YouarefamiliarwithNMEAandotherrelevantdatagramformats.
•Youknowhowtosetuptheparametersforserialandlocalareanetwork(LAN)
communication.
•Theinterfaceportissetupwiththecorrectcommunicationparameters.
•TheST90isturnedon,anditisworkingnormally.
•ThenewsensorisphysicallyconnectedtotheST90usingaserialornetworkcable.It
isswitchedonandinnormaloperation.
Neithertoolsnorinstrumentsarerequired.

Note
TheinputfromacoursegyroisessentialforST90operation.Withouttheinputfroma
coursegyro,theST90willnotbeabletopresentcorrectnavigationalinformation.This
lackofcompensationwillpreventtheST90fromprovidingcorrectechoinformation.
TheSensorInstallationpageallowsyourST90tocommunicatewithexternalsensors
andsystems.Youmustspecifywhichcommunicationporttouse(LAN(LocalArea
Network)orserialport).Youcantypeacustomnametoidentifythesensorimport.In
thelistofvaliddatagramformats,selecttheformat(s)tobeacceptedbytheST90.Once
asensorhasbeenchosen,youmustselecttheoffsetvaluesthatdenethesensor’s
physicallocationrelativetoyourvessel’scoordinatesystem.
