Sizeandaccessrequirements
Awelldesignedsonarroomwithawellttedsizeandeasyaccessreducestheriskof
corrosion,andsimpliesmaintenance.Thisincreasessystemreliability.
Note
Thephysicalsizeofthesonarroommustbelimited,sothatintheeventofamajorleak,
theoodingoftheroomwillnotinduceinstability,orcausethevesseltocapsizeorsink.
Thesonarroommustbelargeenoughtohouseallthesystemunits.Theroommust
provideenoughspacetoallowefcientmaintenance.Youmustbeabletokeepallthe
cabinetdoorsfullyopenwithoutunduerestrictiontoyourmovements.
1Theroommustnotbeusedforanyotherheavymachinery.
2Theroommustnotbeunnecessarilyobstructedbygirders,pipesetc,whichmay
causeinstallationproblemsorimpedemaintenance.
3Thesonarroommustbeaccessibleunderallconditionsatseaorataberth.
4Alldoorsorhatchesmustbedesignedsothatthetoolsandequipmentcanbe
removedwithoutbeingdisassembled.
5Allcablesleadinginandoutofthesonarroommustberuninsteelconduits.These
steelconduitsmustreachupandabovethefreeboarddeck.
6Intheeventofamajorleak,itmustbepossibletocloseallwatertighthatches
and/ordoorstotheroomtomaintainvesselstabilityandsafety.
Note
ThephysicaldistancebetweentheTransceiverUnitandthehullunitislimitedbythe
lengthofthetransducercables.Makesurethatthetransducercableisplacedinsucha
mannerthatthetransducercanbeloweredandhoistedwithoutdamagingthecable.

Thebulkheadsinthesonarroommustbeinsulatedandprovidedwithaninteriorwall
tothedeck.Theroommustbeequippedwithheater,anditmustbeconnectedtothe
vessel'sventilationsystem.
Insulationrequirements
Theinsulationinthesonarroomshouldbetheminimumequivalentof50mmof
rock-wool.Pipingpassingthroughthespacepronetocondensationmustbeproperly
insulated.
