Theinstallationtrunkprovidesthephysicalfoundationfortheentirehullunit.
Prerequisites
Thistaskmusttakeplaceindrydock.Theshipyardmustprovideallnecessarytools
andmanpower.Relevantcranesandliftingequipmentmustbeavailable.Freeaccess
throughthehullorthedecksontothetopoftheinstallationtrunkmustbeprovided.
Note
Theinstallationtrunkisheavy.Appropriateliftingequipment(liftingtackle,portable
craneorship’ scrane)isrequired.Alwaysuseappropriateliftingequipmenttominimize
riskofpersonnelinjuryorequipmentdamages.Onlycertiedequipmentmustbeused.

Note
Thetopmatingsurfaceoftheinstallationtrunkmustbeprotectedwithablindangeor
woodencoveratalltimesuntilthehullunitisinstalled.
Thequalityoftheweldingiscriticaltothesafetyofthevessel.Weldingmustonlybe
donebyacertiedwelder.Alwayswearthepersonalprotectiveequipment.Observe
andobeytherelevantsafetyinstructions.
Thenalinstallationworkmustbeapprovedbythevessel’ snationalregistry,the
correspondingmaritimeauthorityand/orclassicationsociety.
Procedure
1Denethephysicallocationoftheinstallationtrunk.
2Cutoutaholeinthevessel’shullwithadiameterlargeenoughtoaccommodatethe
installationtrunk.
3Orientatetheinstallationtrunkcorrectly,andthenwelditintoposition.
4Bracetheinstallationtrunktothehullplatingandthesurroundinghullframes
byaddingseveralstrengtheningplates.
5Dependingontheshapeofthehull,werecommendthatyoutasteelblisterfor
protection.
6Ifrelevant,placethetrunkextenderontopoftheinstallationtrunk,andmount
itwiththebolts.
7Inspecttheinstallationoftheinstallationtrunk,theblister,hullplatingandall
surfacesthoroughly.
