Aboutcableglands
Cableglandsareusedwheneveracablepassesthroughawatertightbulkheadorinto
acabinet,tosealtheopeningthroughwhichthecablepassesandtoprotectthecable
fromabrasionontheedgesofthehole.
Therearemanydifferenttypesofcableglandonthemarket.Thecableglandsarenot
suppliedwiththesystem.

EventhoughthecabinetsfromKongsbergMaritimemaybepreparedforspecictypes
ofcableglands,theinstallationshipyardwillberesponsibleforselectingcablegland
typesandinstallingthem.
Acablegland(intheU.S.moreoftenknownasacableconnectorortting)is
adevicedesignedtoattachandsecuretheendofacabletotheequipment.A
cableglandprovidesstrain-reliefandconnectsbyameanssuitableforthetype
anddescriptionofcableforwhichitisdesigned—includingprovisionformaking
electricalconnectiontothearmourorbraidandleadoraluminiumsheathofthe
cable,ifany.Cableglandsmayalsobeusedforsealingcablespassingthrough
bulkheadsorglandplates.
Cableglandsaremechanicalcableentrydevicesandcanbeconstructedfrom
metallicornon-metallicmaterials.Theyareusedthroughoutanumberofindustries
inconjunctionwithcableandwiringusedinelectricalinstrumentationand
automationsystems.
Cableglandsmaybeusedonalltypesofelectricalpower,control,instrumentation,
dataandtelecommunicationscables.Theyareusedasasealingandtermination
devicetoensurethatthecharacteristicsoftheenclosurewhichthecableenters
canbemaintainedadequately.

Preparingcablesfortermination
Wheneveracableshallpenetrateacabinetorabulkheadusingacablegland,the
terminationofthecablemustbeprepared.
Prerequisites
Electricalinstallationscanonlybedonebycertiedelectricians.Allnecessarytoolsand
instrumentsrequiredmustbeavailable.Theinstallationshipyardmustpreparedetailed
drawingsoftheelectricalsystem,andidentifyeachcable.
