Context
Cableglandsareusedwheneveracablepassesthroughawatertightbulkheadorintoa
cabinet,tosealtheopeningthroughwhichthecablepassesandtoprotectthecablefrom
abrasionontheedgesofthehole.ThecableglandsarenotsuppliedwiththeST90.
Note
Therearemanydifferenttypesofcableglandonthemarket.Thisproceduredescribes
thetypesused(nowandpreviously)asstandardintheunitsmanufacturedbyKongsberg
Maritime.EventhoughthecabinetsfromKongsbergMaritimemaybepreparedfor
specictypes,theinstallationshipyardwillberesponsibleforselectingcablegland
typesandinstallingthem.
Procedure
1Ensureallthecablestobeconnectedarecompletelyisolatedfromanypower
sources.
Forsafetyreasons,switchoffandremovethepowersupplyfusesfromanyunitsor
systemsintowhichthecablesarealreadyconnected.
2Selectthecabletobeconnectedintothecabinet,andselectthecableglandthrough
whichthecableistopass.
Note
Aminimumof5cm(recommended5to10cm)ofcableslackmustbeallowed,both
insideandoutsidetheunityorcabinet,whenyouinstallcables.Thisistoallowfor
vibrationdamping,maintenanceandmeasurementerrors.Alwaysdouble-check
yourmeasurementsbeforetakinganyirreversibleactions.
3Measurethemaximumlengthofcable.
aIfthecablehasalreadybeeninstalledinconduits:Measurethemaximum
lengthofcablerequiredtoreachfromthenalcableclipoutsidethecabinetto
theterminalblock(s)insidethecabinet.Add20cm,andremovetheexcess
cable.
bIfthecablehasnot
beeninstalledinconduits:Measurethemaximumlengthof
wirerequiredtoreachfromthecableglandtotheterminalblock(s)insidethe
cabinet.Add20cm,andmarkthecable.
Note
Theouterinsulationonthecablewillextendintothecableglandtoapoint
approximately5mmoutsidetheoutersurfaceofthecabinetwall.
4Carefullyremovetheouterinsulationfromtherequiredcablelength.
