drawingssuppliedbytheshipyard.

Verifyingthequalityoftheinstallation
Oncetheinstallationtrunkandblisterhavebeeninstalled,aqualityinspectionmusttake
place.Thepurposeoftheinspectionistomakessurethattheinstallationtrunkhasbeen
installedcorrectly,andthatthehullunitcanbemountedontopofit.
Prerequisites
Neithertoolsnorinstrumentsarerequired.
Context
Theinstallationtrunkmustbemountedsothatitremainsverticalduringnormal
operatingconditions.
Thetopmatingsurfaceoftheinstallationtrunkmustbeprotectedwithablindangeor
woodencoveratalltimesuntilthehullunitisinstalled.Itisveryimportantthatthis
surfaceiscleanandundamaged,becauseitmustbewatertightafterthehullunithasbeen
installedontopoftheinstallationtrunk.
Objectsprotrudingfromthehullwillgenerateturbulenceandownoise.Thiswill
reducetheST90performance.Protrudingobjectsmaybezincanodes,transducersor
eventhevessel'skeel.Holesandpipeoutletsarealsoimportantnoisesources,aswellas
roughsurfacescausedbybadwelding.Eventracesofsealingcompound,sharpedges,
boltsoremptyboltholeswillcreatenoise.
