Example 1 (Unique State)
In this example each of the possible combinations of channel parameters can be thought of as a unique state in a state
machine. Each of these states is uniquely defined by the following three parameters:
Two possible center frequencies…
20 MHz or
28 MHz
Two possible modulation profiles…
Number 1 (16-QAM with FEC T=2) or
Number 2 (QPSK with FEC T=10)
Two possible upstream channel widths…
3.2 MHz or
1.6 MHz
Because each of the three parameters has two options, there are a total of eight possible states that can be defined in this
example:
1. State 1: 20 MHz, 16-QAM w/ FEC T=2, 3.2 MHz width
2. State 2: 28 MHz, 16-QAM w/ FEC T=2, 3.2 MHz width
3. State 3: 20 MHz, 16-QAM w/ FEC T=2, 1.6 MHz width
4. State 4: 28 MHz, 16-QAM w/ FEC T=2, 1.6 MHz width
5. State 5: 20 MHz, QPSK w/ FEC T=10, 3.2 MHz width
6. State 6: 28 MHz, QPSK w/ FEC T=10, 3.2 MHz width
7. State 7: 20 MHz, QPSK w/ FEC T=10, 1.6 MHz width
8. State 8: 28 MHz, QPSK w/ FEC T=10, 1.6 MHz width
