SSM Architecture
With Source-Specific Multicast (SSM), clients join a selected IP multicast group at address G from a specific multicast
source at host IP address S. The notation used to describe this is (S, G).
On the C4/c CMTS SSM is supported on the network-side interface via the PIM-SSM protocol. SSM requires support of
Multicast DSID-based Forwarding (MDF) which means that the C4/c CMTS and the CM must both be MDF-enabled.
As an alternative to PIM-SSM, IGMP Proxy may be used by configuring IGMPv3 as host on the network-side interface.
