18.1 INTRODUCTION
The RFL 93 FT/FR single width fiber optic I/O module consists of an input section (detector) and an output sec-
tion (emitter) housed in a single 1.4 inch wide module. For this reason it is referred to as a single width fiber op-
tic I/O module. A typical single width fiber optic I/O module is shown in Figure 18-1.
Each 93 FT/FR single width fiber optic I/O module is mounted at the rear of the chassis and uses a single width
fiber optic transceiver module (Section 17) mounted at the front of the chassis. Single width fiber optic I/O mod-
ules serve as the interface between the fiber optic transceiver module and the fiber optic cables. This allows the
fiber optic modules to be removed from the chassis without having to draw the fiber through the chassis. A vari-
ety of single width fiber optic I/O modules are available, allowing the RFL 9300 to be used with many different
types of fiber optic cables.
