28.7 INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERTING A 3-TERMINAL 9300 TO A
2-TERMINAL 9300
While performing the required field upgrade please observe the following recommendations:
•
The RFL 9300’s trip outputs should be isolated from the breaker coils to insure against accidental
False Trips.
•
Record all programmable parameters prior to turning off the RFL 9300 and performing upgrades.
After the upgrades are completed, confirm that the programmable parameters did not change.
•
Follow ESD procedures to insure against damage to modules while handling, during upgrades.
•
Perform any standard testing required by your company prior to placing the RFL 9300 back into
servce.
•
After testing is completed, cycle power to all RFL 9300s off and on immediately prior to reconnect-
ing trip outputs to the breaker coils. This will clear any trips that may have remained as a result of
testing
.
1. Review Section 6, Familiarization. Table 6-3 indicates the RFL 9300 modules that must be installed.
Notes 1 and 2 at the bottom of the table should be considered when converting from 3T to 2T.
2. Power down the relay.
3. Place the shorting jumper (J2) of the Supervisor Controller in position C.
Refer to Section 10, Supervisor Controller Module, of the RFL 9300 manual. Figure 10-2 indicates the jump-
ers and their respective positions. J2 is in the bottom position and has two settings, C and D. Setting C is for
2-Terminal (2T), and setting C is for 3-Terminal (3T).
4. As viewed from the front of the RFL 9300:
• Remove the 93B Communications Controller module from the fourth slot from the left. (Position
4 of Figure 6-3 of the manual).
• Remove the Transceiver module* (93 FT/FR module for fiber optic and 93 MO for modem.
There are no modules in the front of the Direct Digital 9300.) from the second slot from the left.
(See position 2 in Figure 6-3 of the manual.)
• Store removed modules in static protective bags.
• If the chassis has individual front panels attached to the removed modules, blank panels will
have to be installed in the front of the chassis. (Qty 1 of RFL PN: 103970 and Qty 1 of RFL PN:
103975)
• If the chassis has a swing down front door design, blank panels are not required.
