Procedure
1Makesurethatthehullunitisinstalledinthecorrectlocation,andthatitissuitably
orientedforeasymaintenanceandreplacementofparts.
2Makesurethattheunitisnotphysicallydamaged,andthatthepaint-workisclean
withoutdentsorscratches.
Thephysicalhandlingoftheunitduringtheinstallationmayhavecausedsome
minorscratchestothepaint-work.Thiscanbeaccepted.However,ifrough
handlinghascausedseriousdamagetotheunit,thismustberecordedwithawritten
statementandnecessaryphotos,sothatcorrectiveactionscanbemade.
3Makesurethattheunithasbeenidentiedwiththerelevantproductlabel(s),and
thatonelabelincludesthepartandserialnumbers.
4Makesurethatthephysicalinstallationoftheunithasbeencompleted.
aMakesurethattheweldsandbracketsusedtosupportthehullunitare
substantialenoughtoholdtheunitsecurelyunderalloperatingconditions.
bMakesurethatthecompartment("sonarroom")inwhichthehullunitis
mountediscleananddry.
cMakesurethatamplespaceisprovidedaroundtheunittoallowfor
maintenanceandreplacementofparts.
dMakesurethatthebolts,screwsorstudsholdingtheunitareofthecorrectsize.
eMakesurethatthecorrectatandshake-proofwashershavebeenused.
fMakesurethatallnutshavebeentightenedproperly.
gMakesurethatallweldsandbracketshavebeenpaintedwiththecorrect
preservationmediumtopreventcorrosion.
5Makesurethatcableinstallationhasbeencompleted.
aMakesurethatallcablesleadingtoandfromtheunithavebeenproperly
mountedandsecured.
bMakesurethatenoughslackhasbeenprovidedoneachcabletoallowfor
maintenanceandreplacement.
cMakesurethatthetransducercablescanmovefreelywhenthetransduceris
loweredandhoisted.
dRepeattheinspectionofthetransducercableswhentheST90isturnedonand
puttooperationaluse.
6Makesurethattheunitisrmlyconnectedtoship'sground.
aMakesurethattheunitissecurelyconnectedtotheship'sgroundwithan
earthingstrap.Thestrapmustbeinadditiontoanyincidentalelectricalcontact
madebythemountinglugsontheunit.
bUseastandardmultimetertocheckthattheresistancebetweentheunitandthe
ship'sgroundisapproximately0(zero)Ω.
