The shelf front covers protect the fiber-optic cabling. These front covers come with the
HD shelves.

If you plan to install a front cover on your HD shelf and you use cables
with MPOconnectors, you must also install the front cover extension. To
determine if your shelf rack or cabinet configuration supports front covers
and extensions, and for more information about accessory installation
requirements, see Accessory Installation Requirements.
The SH12 lower front cover houses an air filter for the PSMs and you
must install it. However, if the PSM-AC6 modulesare installed in your
SH12, the lower front cover must be removed.
