Troubleshooting Infrastructure Modules
Element Controller Module (ECM)
The Element Controller Module (ECM) has these variants:
l ECM-2 for SH4R, SH4R-2, and SH12
l ECM-3 for SH1R
The ECM-x supports these LEDs:
l Mod Indicates the equipment status, power, and module failures in the ECM-x.
l Act Indicates operational status of module when redundant ECMs are installed
(redundant ECMs are supported in a future release).
l S1 and S2 - Optical shelf interconnect ports indicate the connection status to other
shelves on this node.
l Two LEDs for the management port (Ethernet RJ-45) Indicates the link
status/activity and rate of the connection.

Green On steadily Normal operation. No action is required.
Green Blinking The module is starting
up.
No action is required.
When the ECM-x completes the
restart, the LED is green.
Yellow On steadily The module raised a
minor equipment
alarm.
View the current alarms in the
management software, and then
see the appropriate software
guide to resolve the alarm(s).
Yellow Blinking Management
communication was
not established.
1. Unplug the module and re-
insert it.
2. If the LEDblinks yellow,
replace the module.
3. If the LEDin the new ECM-x
blinks yellow, contact
ADVA Optical Networking
Technical Services.
Red On steadily The module has failed
or has just undergone
a cold restart.
1. Wait several minutes to
determine if the module has
undergone a cold restart.
2. If the LEDremains red,
return the module to ADVA
Optical Networking.
