them afterward.
l Read the reminders and warnings before beginning this process.
l Possible loss of service.
l Before inserting MPO connectors into OADM or breakout panel
ports, you must clean them with the procedure below. Failure to
follow this procedure may result in loss of service.
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. Remove the protective end cap and store it in a small resealable container.
3. Inspect the fiber connector in the adapter or bulkhead with a hand-held fiber scope or
video scope probe (Inspecting Fiber-optic Connector and Receptacle End Faces).
4. If the adapter is dirty, select the appropriate lint-free swab according to the connector
ferrule size.
5. Inspect the connector in the adapter again by using a hand-held fiber scope or video
scope probe.
6. For LCreceptacles:
a. Insert the clean lint-free swab into the adapter.
b. Turn the swab several complete revolutions in the same direction.
7. For MPO receptacles:
a. Use a 2.5 mm clean-room swab to clean dust and debris from the fiber
termination area between the MPO alignment pins.
b. Use the tip of a 2.5 mm clean-room swab to clean the fiber termination area on the
female MPO connector.
8. Properly dispose of the swab. Never reuse a swab.
