Installing a QSFPPluggable Transceiver
Installing a QSFPPluggable Transceiver
This procedure assumes that:
l The shelf is properly grounded to the rack;
l The shelf, module, and pluggable transceiver are properly inspected;
and
l The module is installed in the shelf.
LASERRADIATIONWARNING
Each pluggable transceiver is a Class 1 laser product.
1. Use your installation plan to verify the following information about the pluggable
transceiver you are installing
o
What type of pluggable transceiver you are installing
o
Which traffic module will house this pluggable transceiver
o
Which module port will house this pluggable transceiver
2. Verify the operating status of the equipment and the present hazard level. Keep in
mind that when any module is operating in Forced On mode, it influences the laser-
hazard level of the network element. Do not proceed unless you are familiar with the
laser safety and protected accordingly.
3. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
4. Identify the port on the traffic module where you will install the pluggable transceiver.
Do not install a pluggable transceiver with the optical fiber pair
attached. You could damage the optical fibers, the optical fiber
connectors, or the optical port of the module.
5. Remove the dust cover from the identified module port and store it in a resealable
container for future use.
6. To insert the pluggable transceiver into the empty port:
a. Hold the pluggable transceiver between your thumb and forefinger and orient it so
that the label is on the left.
b. Align the pluggable transceiver with the cage opening, and then gently insert it in
the empty cage.
c. Apply light pressure to the pluggable transceiver until it snaps into place. A click
indicates that the transceiver is completely inserted and securely seated in the
cage.
If you feel resistance, remove the transceiver, realign it so that the bale clasp faces
the other direction, and insert the transceiver again.
