Connecting DC Power to the SH12 Shelf
Two power cables of the same length and with the same connectors
constitute a cable pair that belongs to a specific shelf. ADVA Optical
Networking recommends labeling each DC power cable for easy
identification. The label should include the following minimum information
on each end of the cable:
l Designation of the shelf (to which the cable will be connected)
l Cable number
l To/from information
l Power A or Power B
l Polarity of the wires
l Installation Overview — SH12 Shelf
l Installation Overview — SH4R and SH4R-2 Shelves

Connecting DC Power to the SH12 Shelf
ELECTRIC VOLTAGEWARNING
Risk of electric shock, burns, or fire.
Do not connect or disconnect a DCpower cable if voltage is
applied. Always remove power from supply leads before connecting
or disconnecting DC power cables. Ignoring these instructions
results in burns and damage of the plug/socket combination by
causing electrical arcing.
This procedure assumes that:
l The shelf is properly grounded and mounted in the rack;
l The Shortening and Assembling DCPower Cables procedure is
complete;
l The wires on the end of the power cables are assembled with the
proper terminals; and
l The terminals are securely fixed to the wire ends.
If the wire terminals are damaged or inadequately fixed, replace
immediately before proceeding.
