Replacing a CEM
Replacing a CEM-4
This procedure assumes that:
l You properly grounded the shelf to the rack; and
l You unpacked and properly inspected the replacement module.
To make it easier to reattach the cables, make sure they are labeled.
To remove the module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. If installed, remove the front cover from the shelf as described in Removing and
Installing Front Covers.
3. Disconnect the RJ-45 Management ports, if connected (M1 through M3).
4. Disconnect the Interconnect ports, if connected (I1 and I2).
5. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to unscrew the thumb screws from the CEM-4.
6. Lift out on the locking levers to disconnect the module from the backplane.
7. Grasp the levers, and then carefully slide the CEM-4 out of the shelf.
8. Place the defective CEM-4 on a static-dissipative mat.
9. Return the defective CEM-4 to ADVA Optical Networkingas described in Returning
Equipment
To install the new module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. Hold the replacement CEM-4 with the faceplate toward you and the levers extended.
3. Align the CEM-4 edges with the guides of the shelf slot.
4. Lift out the levers, and then gently apply pressure to the bottom of the faceplate while
you push the module into the slot.
5. Push on the faceplate to fully seat the module.
6. Press down on the locking levers to secure the module and connect it to the
backplane. The module is completely inserted when its faceplate is flush with the
faceplates of the adjacent modules and the shelf panels.
7. After you have completely inserted the CEM-4, hand-tighten the thumb screws to
prevent inadvertent dislodging.
8. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to gently tighten the thumb screws. Do not overtighten.
9. Reconnect the RJ-45 Management ports, if necessary.
10. Reconnect the Interconnect ports, if necessary.
11. Look at the module LEDs to ensure they are operating correctly. For
LEDinformation, see Troubleshooting with Component LEDs.
12. Reinstall the front cover as described in Removing and Installing Front Covers.
