Replacing an FTM
Replacing an FTM-2
This procedure assumes that:
l You properly grounded the shelf to the rack; and
l You unpacked and properly inspected the replacement module.
To remove the module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. If installed, remove the front cover from the shelf as described in Removing and
Installing Front Covers.
3. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to unscrew the retaining screw from the FTM-2.
4. Grasp the handle and carefully slide the FTM-2 out of the shelf.
5. Place the defective FTM-2 on a static-dissipative mat.
6. Return the defective FTM-2 to ADVA Optical Networking as described in Returning
Equipment
To install the new module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESDjack.
2. Hold the replacement FTM-2 upright with the faceplate toward you.
3. Grasp the handle while inserting the FTM into the appropriate slot.
4. Gently apply pressure to the faceplate while you push the module into the slot.
5. Push on the faceplate to fully seat the module. The module is completely inserted
when its faceplate is flush with the faceplates of the adjacent modules and the shelf
panels.
6. After you have completely inserted the FTM-2, hand-tighten the thumb screws to
prevent inadvertent dislodging.
7. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to gently tighten the retaining screw as needed. Do not
overtighten.
8. Observe the Mod LED. When the replacement FTM-2 is inserted completely, the
Mod LED turns green and the fans start working. This indicates that the FTM-2 is
functioning properly. If there is an error, the Mod LED turns yellow or red.
9. Reinstall the front cover as described in Removing and Installing Front Covers.
If the replacement FTM-2 does not work or the Mod LEDis red or yellow,
remove and reinstall it. If it still does not work, immediately install another
replacement or reinstall the defective fan unit until a new one is available.
Do not operate the SH12 without having an FTM present and in the slot.
