Connecting AC and DCPower to theSH4R and SH4R-2 Shelf
Connecting AC and DCPower to theSH4R
and SH4R-2 Shelf
ELECTRIC VOLTAGEWARNING
Before connecting the ACpower cable, ensure that power is
removed from the dedicated AC supply circuit.
ELECTRIC VOLTAGEWARNING
Risk of electric shock, burns, or fire.
Do not connect or disconnect a DCpower cable if voltage is
applied. Always remove power from supply leads before connecting
or disconnecting DC power cables. Ignoring these instructions
results in burns and damage of the plug/socket combination by
causing electrical arcing.
ADVA Optical Networking strongly recommends using a straight
ACpower cable with a PSM-AC4 only if the rack is deeper than 600
mm.
This procedure assumes that:
l The shelf is properly grounded and mounted in the rack;
l The PSM-DC4s and PSM-AC5 are securely installed in the shelf;
l You have the ACpower cable specific to your country and it was
provided by ADVA Optical Networking;
l The Shortening and Assembling DCPower Cables procedure is
completed;
l The wires on the end of the power cables are assembled with the
proper terminals; and
l The terminals are securely fixed to the wire ends.
If the wire terminals are damaged or inadequately fixed, replace
immediately before proceeding.
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESD jack.
2. Verify that the office DC power supply is set up to deliver the correct operating
voltage to the shelf (–40 to –72 VDC nominal).
3. Verify that the correct fuse or breaker is installed at the power supply source and that
power is turned off. For recommended external circuit breaker, see PSM-DC4.
