Slot Covers
Slot covers are an integral part of the HD system safety design and perform these
functions:
l Prevent exposure to hazardous voltages and currents inside the shelf.
l Prevent dust and debris from entering the shelf which could cause product damage.
l Ensure continued EMC and safety compliance.
l Direct the flow of cooling air through the shelf.
Slot covers are passive devices and the management system does not monitor them.
The EMC contact strips prevent unintended propagation of electromagnetic energy
towards the external environment that might disrupt other equipment.
To prevent overheating and module failure, never operate the
HDshelves with open or empty slots. Each unoccupied shelf slot
must have the appropriate slot cover to maintain proper cooling for all
other modules and to prevent potential system damage.
