Replacing a PSM
Replacing a PSM-DC4
This procedure assumes that:
l You properly grounded the shelf to the rack; and
l You unpacked and properly inspected the replacement module.
To remove the module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESD jack.
2. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to unscrew the retaining screw from the PSM-DC4.
3. Grasp the handle, and then slowly slide the PSM-DC4 out of the shelf until the Mod
LEDis unlit.
4. Continue to remove the PSM-DC4 completely from the shelf.
5. Place the defective PSM-DC4 on a static-dissipative mat.
6. Return the defective PSM-DC4 to ADVA Optical Networkingas described in
Returning Equipment
To install the new module:
1. Verify that you are properly grounded with an anti-static wrist strap or heel strap
connected to the grounded ESD jack.
2. Stand behind the shelf, and then hold the replacement PSM-DC4 upright with the
faceplate toward you.
3. Insert the PSM into the appropriate slot.
4. Gently apply pressure to the faceplate while you push the module into the slot.
5. Push on the faceplate to fully seat the module. The module is completely inserted
when its faceplate is flush with the back plate of the shelf.
6. After you have completely inserted the PSM, hand-tighten the thumb screws to
prevent inadvertent dislodging.
7. Use a Torx T10 screwdriver to gently tighten the retaining screw as needed. Do not
overtighten.
8. The Mod LED of the PSM-DC4 should turn green to indicate that the units are
functioning properly.
If the Mod LED of the PSM-DC4 is off, no power is being supplied to the
unit. In case of an error, the power LED turns red. For troubleshooting
information, see Troubleshooting with Component LEDs or contact
ADVA Optical Networking for technical assistance.
